Palms and a body of water define this linocut by Walter Christmas, a children's print made around 1933 and pulled as two impressions on one sheet. Christmas signed it in pencil, and it comes from the Harmon Foundation records, which promoted African American artists during the interwar years. It was made at the Harlem Art Workshop, where young students learned to carve a block and print the raised surface, and its bold, simple shapes show how well the medium suits clear design.
