Madison Square, the small park at the junction of Broadway, Fifth Avenue and Twenty-third Street, was one of the busiest open spaces in turn-of-the-century Manhattan. This c1901 view comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled the country producing color-tinted views for sale to tourists and postcard makers. The caption card's tracings, "Towers" and "Parks," point to the tall buildings rising around the square and the greenery at its center. The record is unverified, so the exact vantage point and date should be checked against other sources.
