The "Radcliffeborough" in this title names a rural community outside Charleston, where St. Paul's Church serves a congregation with roots in the colonial Anglican parishes of the South Carolina lowcountry. This view is an 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negative made around 1907 by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that produced large numbers of views of American towns, churches and scenery for travel promotion and sale to tourists in the early twentieth century. Images like this show how a country parish church appeared to visitors of that period.
