Commercial firms lined L Street in downtown Washington in the 1910s and early 1920s, and this view records one of them, the Columbia Planograph Company, at its location on that street. The National Photo Company, which photographed the capital for decades, made the glass negative. Its date is uncertain and falls somewhere between 1910 and 1926, and the street name in the title comes from the photographer's unverified notes. Viewers should also notice the streaks and blemishes across the glass, which come from the coating breaking down over time rather than from the scene itself.
