Artists' Point, a turnout on the road into Yosemite Valley, was a favorite vantage for painters and tourists, and this color print shows the valley's granite walls and waterfalls from that spot. It was made around 1898 by the Detroit Publishing Company, which produced photochroms, a process that combined a black-and-white photograph with multiple hand-prepared color stone plates. Such prints were sold to travelers and collectors, and they helped shape how many Americans pictured the national parks of the West at the turn of the century.
