A long, narrow panorama, roughly 58 inches wide, takes in Yosemite Valley from Artist Point, a lookout on the valley's rim that gave visitors a sweeping view down the granite walls and meadows. The print was registered for copyright in July 1906 by the Pillsbury Picture Co., a commercial publisher, and it reflects the period's taste for wide views of the valley, which had been set aside as a state grant in 1864 and became part of a national park in 1890. Its wide format lets the eye follow the valley's full length, something a standard print could not show.
