From Artist's Point, a vantage above the valley that drew painters and photographers in the decades after Yosemite was set aside as a state park in 1864, this panoramic view stretches across the granite walls and meadows of the valley floor. The print is a cyanotype, a process that produces the distinctive blue-and-white tones of early blueprints, and it was copyrighted by the Detroit Photographic Company, a firm known for scenic views of the American West around 1900. Because the record relies on information from the original caption card, its details are not independently verified. The wide format shows how photographers of the period used panoramas to convey the scale of Yosemite's cliffs and waterfalls.
