Glacier Point rises roughly 3,200 feet above the floor of Yosemite Valley, giving this view a sweeping look down onto the valley and across to the granite walls on the far side. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued photographs and hand-colored views of American scenery in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, produced many images like this one for travelers who were arriving in the valley by stagecoach and rail. Its color process was a notable feature of the company's work, and the record does not give a date, so the exact year of this print is uncertain. The point remains one of the most visited overlooks in the park.
