This panoramic view, printed on a mammoth plate about 35 by 101.5 centimeters, looks down from Glacier Point into the length of Yosemite Valley, with Half Dome rising on the far side. The overlook sits roughly 3,200 feet above the valley floor, which gave visitors a sweeping vista of the granite walls and meadows that a standard camera could not easily capture. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold scenic views to tourists and travelers in the early 1900s, issued this print around 1908, and its wide format reflects the era's appetite for grand American landscapes.
