Horseback riders are the subject that sets this view apart, with Yosemite Falls rising beyond them as seen from the Glacier Point trail. By 1899 the valley drew steady numbers of visitors, and guided rides to overlooks such as Glacier Point were a standard part of the trip. Yosemite Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in North America, drops in three stages, and the trail's route along the cliffs gave travelers a lofty view of the valley floor. The image was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, which helps explain its place in the national collections.
