Artists' Point, a roadside viewpoint above Yosemite Valley, gave visitors a wide view of the granite walls and the Merced River winding across the valley floor. Detroit Publishing Co. issued this color version around 1898 using the photochrom process, which transferred a photograph onto lithographic stones and printed it in several colors. The company sold such views as souvenirs and wall pictures, and this copyright deposit copy shows the bright, painterly look that made Yosemite scenes popular with tourists of the period.
