Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, shown here in a stereograph of about 1905, record a stretch of Boston's waterfront that had been a center of trade since the early 1800s. Faneuil Hall, built in 1742 and long called the "Cradle of Liberty" for its role in colonial protest meetings, stands beside the granite Quincy Market building of 1826, which was designed by Alexander Parris and expanded the city's public market space. The card was issued by Keystone View Company, a firm that sold paired images meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, and its caption places the scene among markets and geography subjects. Look for the market's long arcaded sheds and the busy street life that defined this district at the turn of the twentieth century.
