Few American ballparks from this era are as well documented as League Park on Cleveland's east side, which served as the home field for the city's National League club in the 1890s and for the American League team that followed. This 8 x 10 inch glass negative from the Detroit Publishing Company captures the ballpark in the years between 1900 and 1910, when baseball was drawing large crowds to such grounds across the country. The company's photographers traveled widely to document American cities and landmarks, and their work was often sold as commercial views. The negative came to the Library of Congress as a gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
