Rather than the printed cardboard most collectors know, this example is a gelatin silver photographic print of a Fatima team card, issued in 1913 by the Liggett & Myers company to promote its cigarettes. Tobacco firms tucked cards like these into packs as a bonus, and collectors later traded and saved them, which is how many survived. The card belongs to the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards at the Library, and it shows how early the sport was drawn into commercial promotion.
