Issued under the Fatima cigarette name, this 1914 card carries the T222 designation that collectors use for the American Tobacco Company's tobacco-issued baseball cards. Cards like this were packed with cigarettes, where their stiff cardboard protected the product, and they gave buyers a reason to stick with one brand while trying to complete a set. The Library holds this example as part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, which shows how advertising and baseball became closely linked in the 1910s.
