This glass negative records Al Jolson, the popular singer and stage entertainer, with a group of companions at the White House, probably around 1924. The title comes from unverified data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the date is inferred from other negatives in the same range. The company photographed officials, visitors and events in Washington for decades, so the plate reflects the capital's press photography of its time. Look for streaks and blemishes on the glass, which reflect natural deterioration of the original coating.
