A group of friends, identified in the title as Dorothy Arrington and her companions, stands at the White House in a picture the National Photo Company probably made around 1926. The company worked in Washington, D.C., and built a large body of street scenes, monuments and visitor portraits on glass negatives during the 1910s and 1920s, when photographs of the capital's landmarks were popular with residents and tourists alike. The title comes from notes on the negative sleeve and has not been verified, so the names and date should be read as provisional. Faint streaks and blemishes across the glass come from the coatings deteriorating over time, and they are part of the object's history.
