Issued by the Sterro-Photo Company of Dolgeville, a village in upstate New York, this stereo card is numbered 1055 and was copyrighted by C.A. Richmond around 1907. Its two side-by-side images were meant to be seen through a hand stereoscope, which gave flat photographs a convincing sense of depth. Cards like this sold in large numbers in the first decade of the twentieth century, when parlor viewing was a common family pastime and wedding scenes were a familiar, sentimental subject. The format turned an ordinary family occasion into something a viewer could hold, turn over and revisit.
