Staged for the stereoscope, this card shows a wedding reception in which the dance floor is the centerpiece, a scene that would have been viewed through a hand-held viewer by parlor audiences. The card was published by the Sterro-Photo Co. of Dolgeville, New York, around 1907, and carries a copyright notice in the name of C.A. Richmond, which places it in the boom years of stereograph publishing. Dances and receptions were central social rituals of the period, and cards like this one offered middle-class households a stylized glimpse of celebration they might otherwise never witness up close.
