The Shelbourne Hotel stands on the north side of St. Stephen's Green in Dublin, and this print shows it as a hotel that had already been a fixture of the city for generations by the time of the photograph. The image is a photochrom, a process that used several stone or plate passes to add color to a black-and-white photograph. The Detroit Publishing Company sold such prints in catalogues of "Views of Ireland," and this one is numbered 12046 in its 1905 listing. Its date is given only as between about 1890 and 1900, so the exact year of the exposure is uncertain.
