Roosevelt Dam, on the Salt River northeast of Phoenix, is the subject here, and the title "Overflow" points to water spilling over the structure itself. Built by the federal Reclamation Service and named for Theodore Roosevelt, who dedicated it in 1911, the dam was among the first large irrigation projects of the new reclamation program in the American West. This long panoramic print was registered for copyright in February 1916 by James M. McCulloch, whose listed address was Phoenix, Arizona. Its wide format suits a structure this large, and it records how the reservoir and spillway looked in the years after the dam opened.
