Pitcher Rube Marquard and outfielder Mike Donlin, both of the New York National League club, pose here with a third man named Washburn, whose first name the record leaves uncertain. The glass negative came from the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of sports and city life. Marquard later won 19 straight games in 1912, one of the best-known streaks in baseball history. Titles and dates for these pictures were researched by the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee in 2006, so the 1911 date is best read as a considered estimate.
