Pitcher Rube Marquard of the New York Giants and catcher Paddy Livingston of the Philadelphia Athletics are the two players named here, meeting on the field during the 1911 World Series. The Giants represented the National League and the Athletics the American League, so the Series pitted the two leagues' pennant winners against each other. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, supplied many of the glass negatives in this collection, and its photographers shot sporting events for newspapers that wanted pictures fast.
