Art Fletcher of the New York Giants is pictured at the Polo Grounds, the club's home park on Coogan's Bluff in upper Manhattan, in the days before the 1911 World Series against the Philadelphia Athletics. Fletcher was a dependable infielder for New York in that era, and the Series drew large crowds to the grounds. The picture is a Bain News Service glass negative from a commercial agency that sold news and sports photographs to newspapers. Its caption card dates it to 1912, while later research points to 1911.
