Kano-zan in Kazusa Province is the setting here, a hill on the far side of the bay from Edo, with Fuji rising in the distance across the water. Hiroshige made this design in the late 1850s as no. 35 in his *Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji*, a series that uses the mountain as a backdrop for ordinary rural and coastal scenes. The print was cut and printed as a color woodcut by Matsushima Seikichi, using several blocks to build the soft shifts of color in the sky and water. Notice how small figures and the distant cone of Fuji share the same frame.
