A glass negative titled *Norota*, made in 1896, is tentatively linked by its record to the Stamford Yacht Club in West Stamford, Connecticut, an attribution based on the style of its title and numbering. The 8 by 10 inch plate comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers were recording American towns, resorts and waterways in the 1890s. Yacht clubs along Long Island Sound were centers of summer social life then, so the view offers a glimpse of that leisure. The plate reached the Library of Congress as a gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
