Misery and Downfall Follow Anarchy" is a 1918 German color lithograph by J.U. Engelhard, printed at roughly 106 by 90 centimeters. The same design also circulated as "Bolshevism Brings War, Unemployment and Famine," a title that spells out the warning its makers wanted viewers to take away. It appeared as Germany faced military defeat, food shortages and political upheaval, when many Germans feared that revolution would follow the Bolshevik takeover in Russia. The poster was once part of the Rehse Archive for Contemporary History and Journalism, and it now serves as evidence of how anti-communist propaganda was framed in the final months of the war.
