A question printed in large letters, "Will you send them wheat?", frames this 1918 lithograph as a personal request, and its subject headings include bayonets, linking a kitchen decision to the soldiers at the front. Harvey Dunn designed it for the U.S. Food Administration, the wartime agency led by Herbert Hoover that asked American households to save wheat and other staples so that supplies could reach Allied troops and civilians in Europe. Produced by the Division of Pictorial Publicity as number 25 in its series, it shows how the government tried to turn food conservation into an act of patriotic support.
