The beach and the Strandhotel & Logierhaus, a seaside lodging house, are the subjects here, set on the shore of Glücksburg, a Baltic resort on Schleswig-Holstein's coast. Bathing resorts like this one grew through the later nineteenth century as visitors came for sea air and summer stays, often within sight of the town's older castle. The print uses the photochrom process, which transferred a photograph to stone plates and added color by hand. The Detroit Publishing Company sold these views in the United States, and this one carries its catalog number.
