Few places on the Baltic coast drew more summer visitors in the late 1800s than Misdroy, and this Photochrom view centers on the Hotel Victoria and the beach that lay before it. Misdroy was then part of Pomerania in the German Empire and is now Międzyzdroje in Poland, a change that the title records in parentheses. The color was produced by the Photochrom process, a Swiss method that used multiple lithographic stones to give photographs a painted look. The Detroit Publishing Company sold these prints in America under its own catalog, which is how this example reached the Library of Congress.
