Wiesbaden's Hotel Kaiserhof stood beside the Augusta Victoria Baths, placing a grand hotel next to one of the town's bathing houses in the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau. Wiesbaden had long drawn visitors to its hot mineral springs, and by the 1890s its hotels and baths catered to a steady flow of European travelers. The picture is a photochrom, a color process developed by the Photoglob company in Zurich that built up a view from several printed layers. It is number 8672 in the publisher's Views of Germany series, a record of how spa towns presented themselves at the turn of the century.
