Few places in Florida were photographed from the air as early as Palm Beach around 1921, which makes this view of the town and its shoreline a useful document of the period. The print carries a copyright notice in the name of L.C. Seldomridge, a photographer whose work circulated in the early twentieth century, though little else about him is recorded here. Palm Beach had grown quickly after Henry Flagler extended his railroad south along the Atlantic coast, and by the early 1920s it was becoming a winter retreat for wealthy visitors. Aerial vantage points like this one were still uncommon then, so the picture is worth noticing for how it lays out the beach, the town and the land beyond.
