Las Animas, the county seat of Bent County in southeastern Colorado, appears here from above in a view dated around 1924. The record credits the photograph to Dean P. Holmes of La Junta, a nearby town, though that attribution is unverified and comes from an old caption card. Copyright deposit prints like this one were submitted to the Library of Congress to register a claim to the image, and they preserve a bird's-eye record of a small Arkansas River town in the mid-1920s, when aerial photography was still relatively new. The river and the town's street pattern are the main features to look for from this height.
