Stuttgart, Arkansas, is the subject of this aerial view, taken from above a small town on the Grand Prairie. German settlers founded the community in the late nineteenth century and named it after the German city, and it grew into a center of rice farming and milling in eastern Arkansas. The caption card credits Downing's Studio of Stuttgart, a local photographer, and does not record a date. Views like this from low-flying aircraft were popular for documenting towns in the early twentieth century, so the picture is useful for seeing how the streets, rail lines, and farmland were laid out.
