The Department of Commerce Building on Constitution Avenue, seen from above in 1932, was among the newest federal offices in the capital when this view was taken. Completed that year as one of the large Neoclassical office blocks of the Federal Triangle, it housed the department's trade and industry offices. The overhead angle shows how the long, stone-faced structure anchored the planned federal district stretching toward the National Mall, part of an effort to give Washington a grander civic character in the early 1930s.
