Few buildings in Boston carry as much history as the Old South Meeting House, pictured here alongside the Old South Building on the busy downtown streets. The meeting house, completed in 1729, was where colonists gathered in December 1773 before the Boston Tea Party, and by the early 1900s it had become a museum-like landmark amid commercial blocks. This glass negative came from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers documented American cities and scenery in the years around 1900 and sold views widely, so the picture also shows how a crowded commercial street looked at the time.
