At the head of a pier or landing at City Point in South Boston, this 8 x 10 inch glass negative records a small waterfront building that the catalog classifies as a recreation facility. City Point was a popular seaside spot for Bostonians by the early 1900s, when families came for swimming, boating, and the sea air. The Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed American towns and landscapes for commercial sale, made the view around 1906. The negative later passed through the State Historical Society of Colorado before entering the Library of Congress in 1949.
