Yacht club houses and their wharves on the waterfront at City Point, in South Boston, are the focus of this view. City Point juts into Boston Harbor, and by the early 1900s its shoreline held sailing clubs and the piers that served their boats. The picture is an 8 x 10 inch glass negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that documented American towns, harbors and industry for travel and commercial sale in the years around 1900. Large glass plates like this one recorded fine detail, which makes the buildings and waterfront structures easy to study today.
