Bennett's view looks across City Point, the peninsula at the South Boston end of the city's harbor front, and takes in the windmills and moored boats that marked the shore there. The aquatint was painted and engraved by W.J. Bennett and published in New York by Henry I. Megarey in 1833, a period when Boston's waterfront was a busy commercial edge of shipping, wharves and small industry. Prints like this, colored by hand, gave urban-minded buyers a lively picture of a port city that was growing quickly in the early nineteenth century.
