Fanny Rice appears here full length, standing and turned to the left, a pose typical of the theatrical portraits that circulated widely in New York in the 1890s. Rice was a popular comedienne of the period, best known for her work in burlesque and musical comedy, including her association with the Weber and Fields company. The print was made by the New York studio of B.J. Falk, which produced many copyrighted portraits of stage performers, and its full-length view shows the costume and stage presence that audiences of the day would have recognized.
