Stage Fort Park occupies a rocky headland on Gloucester Harbor, and this view shows one of its tree-lined avenues, a shaded walk that suggests how the grounds were laid out for leisurely strolling. The park's name recalls the fishing stages and early fortifications associated with the town's harbor. The Detroit Publishing Company made views like this one for commercial sale in the early twentieth century, when the city's working waterfront and its public parks drew visitors and summer residents alike. Its glass-plate negative preserves the period's street and landscape detail.
