Cascades in Forest Park, Springfield, Massachusetts, shows falling water among the wooded grounds of one of the city's best-known public parks. Forest Park was laid out in the 1880s on the edge of Springfield, and by the early 1900s it drew families and day-trippers looking for shade and open air close to town. The Detroit Publishing Company produced views like this for the travel trade, and the fine detail of its 8 by 10 inch glass negative captures the rock and moving water with the clarity that made such scenes popular in print and on postcards.
