The title "KKK Services" comes from a label the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the record notes that this attribution is unverified, so the scene itself should be read with that caution. The date of about 1925 is drawn from other negatives in the same range rather than from the image. In the mid-1920s the Ku Klux Klan had grown into a large national movement, and its public gatherings often mixed religious language with ceremony, which makes photographs like this a record of the organization at its height. Glass negatives of this age often show streaks and surface loss, and some of that deterioration may be visible here.
