The Continental Trust Building stood in the commercial core of downtown Washington, D.C., where the office towers of the early twentieth century were reshaping the city's skyline. The National Photo Company, which recorded the capital's streets, buildings and public life during those decades, made this glass negative, and its date of about 1926 is inferred from other negatives in the same range. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from deterioration in the original coatings, so the image may look softer and more mottled than the building did when it was new.
