A question mark follows the title, so the identification of this view as the Treasury Building in Washington, D.C., rests on the label the National Photo Company wrote on the negative sleeve. The Treasury, a granite and marble building on Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House, was a familiar landmark for visitors to the capital in the early twentieth century. The National Photo Company made many views of Washington for postcards and prints during that period. Streaks and blemishes on the film likely come from natural deterioration of its coating.
