A group from the National Press Club is shown presenting plans for the club's new building to President Calvin Coolidge, according to the title, on September 15, 1925. Coolidge had taken office in 1923, and the Press Club, founded in Washington in 1908, was the professional home of many of the capital's correspondents. The negative comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded official life and public events in the city from about 1907 to 1936. Streaks and blemishes on the glass reflect deterioration in its original coating, so fine detail should be judged with that wear in mind.
