This glass negative documents the Central Savings Bank building, photographed by the National Photo Company sometime between 1918 and 1928. The firm, based in Washington, D.C., recorded the city's streets, offices and commercial buildings on large-format plates like this 8 by 10 inch negative, which captured architectural detail that smaller formats could not. The title comes from the company's own notes and has not been independently verified. Streaks and blemishes across the plate come from the coating deteriorating over the decades, a common condition in glass negatives of this age.
