Count Alexander Skrzynski of Poland is shown at the tomb of Woodrow Wilson, the wartime president who died in February 1924 and was entombed in Washington National Cathedral. Skrzynski was a Polish diplomat, and a visit by a foreign official to a former American president's resting place was the kind of ceremonial stop the National Photo Company, a Washington studio, regularly recorded for newspapers and news services. The picture survives as a glass negative dated July 17, 1925, and its title comes from the studio's own notes, which the archive has not independently verified. Faint streaks and blemishes across the plate reflect the natural decay of its original coating.
