Dated August 8, 1925, this glass negative carries a title that the National Photo Company applied, and its record notes that the title has not been verified, so the subject is best read as a likely Ku Klux Klan parade. Klan marches drew large crowds in Washington during the mid-1920s, when the group's membership and public visibility had reached a peak across the country. The National Photo Company worked as a commercial studio in the capital, so its plates capture street life as much as official events. Viewers should also notice the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from deterioration in the original coatings rather than from the scene itself.
