Cherry Street in Fall River, Massachusetts, is preserved here on an 8-by-10-inch glass negative, and its catalog record lists churches among the subjects. Fall River was a major textile city in the years between 1910 and 1920, and its mills drew waves of immigrant workers who built their own parishes near the factories, so street scenes from the period often show homes, shops and church buildings packed close together. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued views of towns and scenery across the country, made this plate as part of its large commercial output of the era.
